Earlybird Deadline and Wiki Links

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Don’t miss earlybird registration, the deadline is Friday. Visit http://archcon.archlinux.ca/ to register. The earlybird fee is $100; afterwards it’ll be $150.

We have a great collection of presenters and presentations coming. I’ll try to have abstracts of the talks up before the deadline passes. If I don’t get to it (I’m moving this weekend), I’ll extend the deadline until one day after they are posted.

Dieter has set up a couple of wiki pages for the conference here:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Archcon#Archcon_2010
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Archcon_extra_activities

As with any wiki page, you are encouraged to expand and improve them!

Dieter will be travelling all the way from Belgium and is planning to make a vacation out of the trip. If you’re interested in participating in any activities or a road trip (before or after the conference) with him and other Archers, make sure to get in touch!

Archcon Registration Form Available

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

First my host was down and I couldn’t upload the simple registration form I’d written. Then I nuked half my sites with a poorly placed rm -r (caused by awful latency on my satellite connection). Now I am seeking massive amounts of pity.

I recovered the Archcon blog. Now I have the Archcon registration form available as well. All’s well that ends well, perhaps? It depends how angry pyther is about my deleting the arch-home directoly!

Please visit this page to register for ArchCon. Note that your registration isn’t approved until your payment is received. Aside from getting a registration discount, you’ll be doing Ricardo and I a great favour by registering early; we need an estimate of the number of attendees, and we need initial funds to get started on rentals and schwag purchases.

Solid Dates and more

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

It’s been a long while since there’s been any activity on this site, but we (especially Ricardo) have been doing our research in the background. We now have:

Solid dates: July 22 and 23, 2010. That’s a Thursday and Friday, and we’ll be organizing some touristy stuff on the weekend.

Solid location: Humber College, Toronto, Ontario Canada.

Solid rates: See the Fees and Registration Page. Rates range from $100 if you register in February to $200 if you drop in unannounced on the day of the conference.

In addition, most of the pages in the menu to the right have been updated, and a few new ones added.

Finally, we still have a depressingly low number of presentation proposals. Please send your proposals to dusty@archlinux.ca as soon as possible. Submitting a proposal does not commit you to attending the conference at this time. If you think you may be able to show up, and you have a Arch, General Linux, General Geek, Systems administration, or Programming-related topic you’d like to present, please don’t be shy!

Call For Proposals

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

ArchCon is going to be sometime in July. We aren’t sure how long or what date it’ll be yet, but we know it’s gonna happen, and we want you to present there. We don’t know what you might want to present, so if you have any ideas, send a detailed proposal to dusty@archlinux.ca.

We have some guidelines for the types of stuff you might want to talk about and how long each presentation will last here. Deadline for proposals is January 31.

ArchCon 2010 website

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I’m using wordpless more as a CMS than a blog, because I wanted a very simple CMS.  But blogs can be useful too, so here’s some bloggishness.

Ricardo (ralvez) and I (Dusty) have decided to host an Arch Con in July, in Toronto. That’s about the extent of our plans so far. Keep an eye on this page for more details coming soon.

Hopefully the news will not be “We’ve decided to give up this venture.” :-)
